What is the route of the 33º Maratón Popular Ciudad de Badajoz 2027
The Badajoz City Popular Marathon starts and finishes at the La Granadilla Municipal Sports Complex, on Avenida José Miguel Sánchez Hueso. The course, practically flat, runs through the streets and avenues of Badajoz and shares its route with the half marathon.
The route runs through Plaza Alta, past the Puerta de Palmas and across the Puente Real bridge over the Guadiana river, one of the most photographed sections of the race.
The course continues through the parks on both banks of the river, the Alcazaba, Puerta de la Trinidad and squares such as Plaza de Cervantes, Plaza de la Soledad and Plaza de España.
The final kilometres pass through Paseo de San Francisco and Plaza de los Alféreces before returning to La Granadilla to cross the finish line.
Where to stay for the 33º Maratón Popular Ciudad de Badajoz 2027
Badajoz's Old Town is the best area to stay: you can walk to most landmarks, enjoy tapas and stay well connected to the rest of the city.
Areas around Parque de Castelar and the Guadiana river, near the Alcazaba and the Museum of Fine Arts, are also a good option, close to the historic centre.
The start and finish are at La Granadilla, a bit outside the centre, so if you stay downtown you'll need a car or taxi on race morning.
Getting there from the airport for the 33º Maratón Popular Ciudad de Badajoz 2027
Badajoz Airport (Talavera la Real) is about 14 km from the city centre, with no direct public transport: access is by taxi, rental car or private vehicle via the N-V road.
Its flight offering is limited, so many travellers choose to fly into Madrid or Seville and continue by car or intercity bus to Badajoz.
By car, it's about 400 km from Madrid or around 215 km from Seville.

The Badajoz City Popular Marathon is a long-distance urban race organized by the Badajoz City Council's Municipal Sports Foundation, held every March.
