What is the route of the Quijote Maratón

The Quijote Marathon in Ciudad Real debuts a new route designed to bring the race further into the city centre, with fewer turns and less climbing than in previous editions. The start is on Ronda de Calatrava, at its junction with Calle Vicente Alexandre, and the finish is on Calle Juan Ramón Jiménez, next to the entrance of the Rey Juan Carlos I sports centre.

The full marathon covers two laps of the circuit, while the half marathon runs a single lap. The course crosses the historic centre, passing Plaza Mayor, Plaza del Pilar and Plaza de la Constitución, along with the historic Puerta de Toledo and Puerta de Santa María gates.

The route mixes these monumental stretches with green spaces such as Parque del Pilar, Parque de los Poetas and Parque del Cementerio. Water and refreshment stations appear every 5 km, with sponge points every 2.5 km, along the whole circuit.

Where to stay for the Quijote Maratón

Central Ciudad Real, around the Plaza Mayor, is the most practical area to stay: just a few minutes' walk from both the start (Ronda de Calatrava) and the finish (Calle Juan Ramón Jiménez), and home to most of the city's hotels.

Ciudad Real is a small, very walkable city, so any accommodation near the historic centre will leave you a reasonable distance from the course.

Getting there from the airport for the Quijote Maratón

Ciudad Real doesn't have an airport with regular commercial flights, so the most practical option for most runners is to fly into Madrid-Barajas Airport and continue by AVE high-speed train to Ciudad Real, a journey of just over 50 minutes with frequent departures throughout the day.

From Madrid airport you can reach Atocha station (where the AVE departs) via the direct C-1 Cercanías line.

If you're driving, Ciudad Real is about two hours from Madrid by motorway.
