What is the route of the Font Vella Lanzarote International Marathon
The Font Vella Lanzarote International Marathon route runs in December along a coastal avenue, crossing four municipalities on the island: Costa Teguise, Arrecife, San Bartolomé and Puerto del Carmen.
The 42K start is at the Sands Beach Resort, on Avenida de las Islas Canarias in Costa Teguise. From there, the course heads south along the island's east coast to Puerto del Carmen, around kilometre 21, where it turns back toward the starting point.
It's a completely flat seaside course, with a mild average temperature of around 19°C, and eight aid stations spread along the coastal route.

Where to stay for the Font Vella Lanzarote International Marathon
Costa Teguise, where the start and finish are, is the most practical option if you want to avoid any travel on race day; that said, it's the windiest of the island's three main resort areas.
Puerto del Carmen, at the route's midpoint (km 21), is Lanzarote's most complete tourist area, with a flat 6 km seafront promenade, and is more sheltered from the wind.
Playa Blanca, although not directly on the route, is another common choice on the island if you'd prefer somewhere quieter, though it means a longer trip to the start.
Getting there from the airport for the Font Vella Lanzarote International Marathon
Lanzarote Airport is very close to Arrecife (less than 5 km) and about 15 minutes by car from Costa Teguise (14.6 km).
Direct buses run to the main tourist areas: line 161 connects to Puerto del Carmen every 30-60 minutes, and to reach Costa Teguise you can combine line 22 to Arrecife with line 3.
A taxi is the fastest and most direct option, especially recommended if you land outside bus hours or are travelling with more luggage than usual.
